Great read, thanks David. On your closing comments, I have to agree. I love the new black kit and the 'unleashed' lion. Whether I'll relieve myself of £90 to acquire it is yet to be determined. But it looks superb!

Love the "unleashed lion," but I couldn't deal with the sponsor, so I went with the Originals shirt instead. I'm upbeat about the season ahead; the changes have come hard and fast, but with so many players being "Dean Smith's Men," a remake of the club was overdue.

I'm inclined to agree with you on the lion, it would look much better with the script IMO; a bit too nondescript for me on its own. More widely, despite the raft of departures I find myself much more excited than at this time last year. A younger, more aggressive Villa beckons.

Yes, that’s what I liked about getting the likes of Manzambi, Gomes, and Ruggeri in was giving the team a more aggressive and energetic look.

As an aside, David, I know from the pod you have a bit of thing about drop shadows. Mind if I ask why?

In terms of an official crest, it’s false artifice, it’s not a core element. If there’s a shadow, then there’s a sun positions somewhere, so in this case, all elements on a crest should have it, in the strictest sense. It’s seen as a dated and clumsy design element by some designers. It’s not clean. There is a problem that supporters actually highlighted in the first survey on the original badge design, and that’s that the yellow lion becomes washed out against a sky blue background. The drop shadow is a desperate attempt to do something about that, while originally the direction was to change the colour of the lion.
